If you have a high-risk pregnancy, our care management program can provide you with extra support at no cost. Once you enroll, your nurse care manager will meet with you 1:1 by phone to answer your questions, connect you to resources and help you understand and follow your provider’s orders. Lactation consultants provide expecting and new parents with comprehensive breastfeeding education, support, counseling and more. They’ll help you understand and establish a lactation plan that’s best for you and your baby. Learn more about this benefit or how to connect with a lactation consultant with CareFirst Video Visit.

Additionally, if you will need a breast pump, you can use this resource to find and order one prior to delivery. You’ll need to enter your CareFirst member ID information to see which options are covered under your benefits. Supplies such as milk storage bags, nursing bras or creams are not covered.

Ask your doctor, as well as family, friends and neighbors, for recommendations. Visit our provider directory to make sure the doctor participates in your health plan.


Update Your Health Insurance Plan

Once your baby is born, you must add your child to your policy within a certain timeframe as determined by your employer or your health insurance carrier. Make sure you understand those rules and the procedure for adding your baby to your health plan before you give birth.
